SPOON VICTOR: Feger Wins Sunday Special at Spoon River

May 29, 2022 (Lewistown, IL) The 2022 Mars Racing Series tour held its fifth event of the season at Spoon River Speedway on Sunday night paying $5,064 to win.  The pits filled up with 21 cars at the high banked Spoon River Speedway.

In Allstar Performance qualifying it was Kolby Vanderbergh who laid down the quickest lap at 13.218 seconds. This set the stage for 3 heat races to set the field for the 40 lap $5,064 to win event.

In Arizona Sport Shirts Heat Race #1 McKay Wenger took the win with Kolby Vandenbergh and Ryan Unzicker the top three finishers.

Heat Race #2 presented by Dirt Track Bank went to defending series champion Brian Shirley. Joe Godsey and Mike Chasteen came home second and third.

In Oriley's  Heat Race #3 Jason Feger picked up the win with Bob Gardner second and Justin Reed third.

The 40 lap $5,064 to win feature was full great racing. McKay Wenger took the lead early on in this one. Joe Godsey and Ryan Unzicker challenged Wenger in the first half of the race but just couldn't seem to get the job done to take the lead. Right before the halfway point Jason Feger was able to capitalize on the misfortune of Godsey and get his nose in the mix. The final stages of the race was highlighted by Jason Feger holding off Ryan Unzicker as they had to deal with lapped traffic.

Ryan Unzicker and Brian Shirley finished in second and third. Tommy Sheppard Jr was the Keyser Manufacturing Hard Charger Award winner improving 9 spots for a seventh place finish.

The Mars Racing Series will take off a month and half for the DIRTcar Summer Nationals.  The series will return to action July 22nd at Farmer City Raceway for the $3,000 to win Kimler Memorial. Every lap of action can be seen LIVE on FloRacing.
