Feger Rolls to Victory at Fayette County

Brownstown, IL (May 29, 2021) - Twenty-six Mars Racing Series Late Models entered the event on Saturday night at Fayette County Speedway. Drivers from four different states tried their luck on the high banks in Brownstown, Illinois. Drivers took advantage of Brian Shirley not being on hand to close the points gap during round seven of the 2021 tour.

In Allstar Performance Qualifying it was Kentucky driver Josh Rice, making a suprise visit with the Mars Series, he bested the 25 other drivers as they raced the clock.

In Arizona Sports Shirts Heat Race #1 it was Josh Rice who ran away from the field and hid. Josh won by over a straightaway. Local driver Paul Kuper came home in second, Dewayne Keifer finshed in the third spot.

Jason Feger took Dirt Track Bank Heat Race #2 over Illinois drivers Ryan Unzicker and Bob Gardner.

O'Riley Auto Parts Heat Race #3 was won by Tanner English. The brothers Gordy and Trevor Gundaker came home runner up and third.

All cars moved on to race in the 40 lap to win main event. On the opening lap Jason Feger used the high side to take the race lead from Josh Rice. A couple of early yellow flags slowed the field. Feger held the lead with a hungry Josh Rice behind him. After the race got going Rice and Feger put on a show for the race fans. On each end of the race track they traded slider for slider and cross over for cross over as they battled for the lead.

Josh Rice drove away and was setting a blistering pace as he put on a show weaving in and out of traffic lapping car after car. He built up a nearly half a track lead before he got too high coming off turn four and made contact with the outside wall and cut down a tire. On the yellow Ryan Unzicker also encountered problems as he got some left front damage that sidelined him for the rest of the event.

On the restart Jason Feger assumed the race lead. Tanner English continued his consistency running in second place. St. Charles, MO driver Gordy Gundaker moved up in the third spot. In the final circuits the top three remained unchanged. Jason Feger picked up the $5,000 to win event. In victory lane he mentioned how his season has not been what he would have liked it to be so far and that this win was a got shot in the arm. "We have had nothing but bad luck and when we didn't have bad luck we flat out sucked." It was Jason's 11th career win on the Mars tour. That moves him up in a tie for 9th on the All-Time Mars win list.

Tanner English continues to string together podium finishes. It was his fifth top 3 finish in as many starts on tour this year. Gordy Gundaker rounded out the podium. He stated that we needed to be a little better, I am not a guy who can pound that cushion lap after lap like Feger and these guys can.

The Mars Racing Series will next be at Spoon River Speedway this Sunday May 30th for a $5,000 to win event.
