Jackson Jr makes the most of MARS at Midway

By Ben Shelton (Lebanon, MO) -- Tony Jackson Jr. parked his Merrill Bonding #56 CMD Race Shocks/ MB Customs/ Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model in Victory Lane for the second time in 2017 on Monday night.

Jackson’s win came with the Mid America Racing Series (MARS) DIRTcar West Super Late Models at Midway Speedway (Lebanon, Missouri) and was worth $3,000.

“It felt like we had a monkey on our back most of the weekend,” Jackson Jr. commented. “Parts failures, bad luck, you name it… we had it all until Monday night. At least we were able to end the weekend on a high note with a win. Hopefully we’ve gotten everything lined out and can have a strong performance in our debut at Eldora Speedway this week.”

On Friday night Tony Jackson Jr. kicked off the Labor Day weekend at Lakeside Speedway (Lakeside, Kansas) in the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) sanctioned opener. With 19 Super Late Models on hand for the Clyde Ellis Memorial, Jackson Jr. locked his spot into the $3,000-to-win A-Main with a 3rd-place finish in his heat race. Coming two spots shy of a Top-10 finish, Tony posted a 12th-place outing in the 30-lapper.

The following night Jackson Jr. was one of 26 MLRA entries registered at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri) for the Larry Phillips Memorial. Coming in 3rd in his heat race, Jackson Jr. earned the 16th-starting position for the feature. With $5,575 on the line, Tony was an early retiree after breaking a lift arm early in the A-Main. He was credited with a 23rd-place finish.

Returning to action with the MARS DIRTcar West Series on Sunday, Tony headed to Monett Motor Speedway (Monett, Missouri) for the 4-State Dirt Track Championship. After issues with his throttle early in the night forced him to hop behind the wheel of Mason Oberkramer’s secondary car, Jackson Jr. posted a 17th-place finish in the 30-lap feature.

Closing out the four-day weekend, Tony stopped at Midway Speedway (Lebanon, Missouri) on Monday evening. After posting the fastest time overall in qualifying, Jackson Jr. scored a heat race victory positioning him 2nd on the starting grid for the feature. Jumping into the lead early, Tony Jackson Jr. cruised to his second win of the season and a $3,000 payday. Joe Godsey, Mason Oberkramer, Cole Wells, and Scott Crigler completed the Top-5 finishers in the 30-lapper.

Tony is currently leading the MARS DIRTcar West Series point standings. Full results from the weekend are available at http://www.MLRARacing.com and http://www.MARSRacingSeries.com .

The upcoming weekend – September 7-9 – will see Tony entering unfamiliar territory. He will be taking his #56 MB Customs Super Late Model to the legendary Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) to compete in the 47th Annual World 100.

“I’ve never even seen the place, so I’m crazy excited about this weekend,” Jackson Jr. said. “This is clearly our Super Bowl so to get to go and take part in it, is a really big deal for me and my team. Hopefully the learning curve won’t be too steep for us and we can have a solid weekend.”

The weekend comes to life with twin $10,000-to-win features on Thursday and Friday. Saturday night will culminate with a $50,000-to-win, 100-lap finale.
For those who aren’t lucky enough to attend fear not, as you can watch the entire weekend live on pay-per-view by going to http://www.EldoraSpeedway.com or http://www.DirtOnDirt.com .
