SMOOTH DOMINATION: Pierce Dominates Super Nationals at FALS

September 3, 2022 (Fairbury, IL) Round 12 of the Mars Racing Series took place at Fairbury Speedway on Saturday night. The pits filled up with 42 cars on the beautiful summer evening in the land of Lincoln. The event was part of the FALS Super Nationals that paid $10,000 to win in both Late Model and Modified divisions.

In Allstar Performance qualifying it was Bobby Pierce who laid down the quickest lap at 12.936 seconds. This set the stage for four heat races to set the field for the 50 lap event.

In Arizona Sport Shirts Heat Race #1  Steven Roberts took the win to start on the pole for the nights main event. Jake Little, Derek Chandler, and Jake Miller were the other transfer cars.

Heat Race #2 presented by Dirt Track Bank went to Metamora, IL driver Jay Sparks. Other drivers picking up transfer spots were Myles Moos, Chris Simpson, and Taylor Scheffler.

O'Reily Auto Parts Heat Race #3 went to Bobby Pierce. Donny Walden, Brian Shirley, and Jeffery Ledford all moved on to the main event.

Heat Race #4 presented by Hoosier Tire Midwest went to Frank Heckenast Jr. Mike Mataragas, Ryan Unzicker, and Shannon Babb all transferred to the feature event.

It took a pair of B-Main events to set the final four starting spots. Michigan driver Ryan Vanderveen and Jeff Herzog took the top two spots in the first B-Main. Rich Bell and Mars Series regular Jason Feger moved on to the main event. The 22 car starting field was made complete with a series provisional being given to Bob Gardner and track provisional to Mike Spatola.

In the 50 lap $10,000 to win event Bobby Pierce took the lead on lap one and never looked back. In the opening stages fans witnessed quite the battle between Frank Heckenast Jr, Jay Sparks and Steven Roberts. A pair of cautions slowed the event early with scuffles between Steven Roberts and Jay Sparks. Brian Shirley and Shannon Babb were the other two drivers in the mix as the middle stages of the race came on.

Bobby Pierce checked out and the field and dominated the event winning by six seconds over Shannon Babb. Ryan Unzicker rounded out the podium after starting back in the twelfth position.  Jason Feger was the Keyser Manufacturing Hard Charger of the night after improving 15 positions for a top five finish.

The Mars Racing Series now looks to the Sunday event at the Spoon River Speedway for $5,000 to win. This will close out the weekend tripleheader in the land of Lincoln. Every lap of action can be seen LIVE on FloRacing.
