MARS West plans 36 races and MARS East plans 25 races in 2017mars
The MARS DIRTcar Series West division has announced its 2017 schedule with 37 races in seven states mostly mirroring recent seasons when the tour was based in Missouri.
Monett (Mo.) Speedway and Springfield (Mo.) Raceways are set to host a series-high four races a piece while the series is set to return to Salina (Okla.) Highbanks Speedway, Legit Speedway Park in West Plains, Mo., among others. Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway is set to launch the season for the eighth consecutive year.
Among MARS West tracks hosting co-sanctioned events with other regional tours are Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., La Salle (Ill.) Speedway.
MARS will operate with West and East divisions in ’17 after Randy Mooneyham recently sold the series to Clarksville Speedway promoter William Scogin and three partners. While the West will operate much like it has in recent seasons under Mooneyham, the East division is expected to run events at Clarksville, Duck River Raceway Park in Wheel, Tenn., and Crossville (Tenn.) Speedway and other tracks. MARS East will be made up of perhaps 10-12 events, Scogin said.
MARS events continue under DIRTcar Racing rules with Scogin considering a change to a time-trial format rather than the tour’s traditional heat-race passing points at tracks with qualifying capabilities.
MARS racing for the West side consist of 2 races at Clarksville Speedway, 5 races for Springfield Raceway, 2 races for La Salle Speedway, 2 races for Midway Speedway, 2 races for Legit Speedway, 1 race for Davenport Speedway, 1 race for 34 Raceway, 3 races for Salina Highbanks, 4 races for Monett Speedway, 1 race for Caney Valley Speedway, 1 race for Farley Speedway, 1 race for West Liberty Raceway, 1 race for Thunderbird Speedway, 2 races for Farmers City Raceway, 2 races for Fairbury American Legend Speedway, 1 race for Spoon River Speedway, 2 races for Longdale Speedway, 1 race for Kankakee Speedway, 1 race for Granite City Speedway and 1 race for I-55 Speedway.
